Well all the visits and a notification from google about them

I realize I made this blog public, then I haven´t written on it in a good long while. My time and energy has been focused on my adjustment to a new faculty job in a different country.
I am now far away from my adult son, whom I miss like crazy, but I am working in a field that I am very passionate about, and find time to talk about it, not to write much about it and not yet enough time to gather data about it. I work on immigrant and minority education in an Icelandic context.
Lately my feed is full of the discussion of refugees from Syria and the European and more specifically Icelandic response. It is so sad (terrifying even) that so many people are homeless, fleeing for their lives only to find political arms closed, while public will is so overwhelmingly positive.
These people have fled horrible situations into situations that are uncertain but one hopes much safer for them and their families. This is happening at the same time that my feed is full of #blacklivesmatter in the US, which I believe to be important as well. What amazes me it how quickly information is transmitted and the amazing affect it is now having on how people band together and try to make change. And I hope the end result is effective change not just nominal change, we clearly need systemic change, attention to systemic inequities, open and willing discussions of issues where people who are underserved, oppressed or in so many ways on the margins have voice and the position to make changes.
Well I can keep talking, teaching and hoping.
